The Minister with responsibility for the Office of Public Works says it will assist Roscommon County Council in its efforts to bring about a long-term solution to flooding at Lough Funshinagh.
The lake now is at its highest level since this in 2016; one home has already been flooded and up to eight pumps are operating to protect other properties.
Roscommon County Council is to begin work to install a pipe or series of pipes to draw water from the lake to the river Shannon - however the process including environmental assessments, planning and tenders is expected to take up to two years.
Residents say that may be too late for homes and farm livelihoods in the area.
OPW Minister Patrick O' Donovan says his Department is providing whatever assistance is needed:
