Roscommon Councillors have strongly criticised plans to close three local council offices to the public.
A review undertaken by the local authority has recommended that public services cease at the Castlerea, Strokestown and Ballaghaderreen offices due to low public interaction.
Under the proposals, these offices would focus purely on administration, with the report finding that customer interaction only accounted for 18 per cent of staff's workload.
The issue was discussed at this weeks meeting of Roscommon County Council where councillors strongly disagreed with the plans and called for an immediate rollback of the decision.
Chief Executive of the Council, Eugene Cummins, defended the plans, arguing that the vast majority of people are using online methods to engage with the local authority.
Addressing the chamber, he stated that the footfall just doesn't cut it.
Speaking to Shannonside FM outside of the meeting, Councillor Tom Crosby said the removal of the services would be a disaster.
