Over 10 million euro in funding has been allocated between two local universities.
The investment announced this week by Minister for higher Education Simon Harris will be used in areas such as digital infrastructure, building capacity in research, and in improving governance and systems integration.
The Technological University of the Shannon will benefit from 4.5 million euro while The Atlantic Technological University will be given funding of 5.27 million euro.
Minister Harris says the investment will help build on the important work being carried out and ensure TUs have the capacity to grow.
Nationally 23.47 million euro in funding was divided amongst five Technological Universities.
