According to the report, Leitrim and Westmeath have the highest proportion of beds contracted to the Government in the region.

13% of registered tourist beds in the Shannonside region are being used to accomodate refugees and international protection applicants.
According to the report, Leitrim and Westmeath have the highest proportion of beds contracted to the Government in the region.
The figures are contained in Fáilte Ireland's latest report on tourist beds contracted to the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration, and Youth.

As of November 2023, an average of 13% of all Fáilte Ireland registered beds in Hotels and Guesthouses in the region were allocated to the Government.
Westmeath and Leitrim had the highest proportion of these at 17%.
This is followed by Longford at 12% and Roscommon, with the second lowest figure in the country behind Kildare, at just 6%.
Clare is the county with the highest proportion of Government allocated tourist beds at 33%.
In its conclusion, Fáilte Ireland state that the potential loss to the tourism sector as a result of this could be between 750 million and 1.1 billion per year.
