Close to 15% of primary school children in the Shannonside Northern Sound region are being taught in crowded classrooms.
Figures published in The Irish Independent show Leitrim and Monaghan have the highest number of clasrooms with over 30 pupils in them
According to this latest release by the Department of Education, 11.4% of primary school children in Ireland are in a class size of over 30.
Leitrim is the county with the highest proportion of classes with 30 or more pupils nationally, at 18.6%
This is followed by Monaghan at 17.2% and Westmeath at 14.5%.
12.8% of pupils in Roscommon are in a class of 30 or more followed by Cavan at 12.9% and Longford at 10.4%
Laois has the lowest number of classes of this nature with just 6.5% affected.
Out of a total of 539,000 primary school pupils, 61,345 are in a class size of 30 or larger.
