Over 16,000 households in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon power their homes or heating systems with renewable energy.
That's according to Census 2022 data released this month from the Central Statistics Office. That's followed by Solar Panels, where close to 3,500 households in the Shannonside region use photo voltaic panels for power or heating.
2,000 homes across the three counties have had heat pumps installed, while just 70 households in Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim have erected wind turbines. Overall, 35,000 families power and heat their homes through conventional means such as mains electricity, natural gas or oil fired central heating.
