The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of 1866* confirmed cases of COVID-19.
As of 8 am this morning, 331 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, 61 of these patients are in ICU.
Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, this figure is the highest number of people since April 3 this year receiving critical care.
He says critical care is the last line of defence against COVID-19 this figure is of concern.
He says there are other ways we and our loves ones can be protected from severe outcomes from COVID-19 and is appealing to people who have who haven’t yet taken up the opportunity of vaccination or, who have delayed receiving a second dose for various reasons to take the opportunity of getting protected against severe outcomes.
