225 claims involving uninsured motorists were dealt with by the Motor Insurers Bureau of Ireland in the Shannonside region over the last five years.The Bureau is a non-profit organization specializing in compensating victims of road traffic accidents caused by uninsured and unidentified vehicles.
Over the 5 year period, the average motorist in the Shannonside region will have contributed between €150 - €175 to cover costs of uninsured drivers through their motor insurance policies.In 2022 there were a total of 17 claims involving uninsured drivers in Longford, which was up by 21% from 2021.Leitrim had 11 claims last year, up 27% from 2021.
There were 16 claims involving uninsured drivers in Roscommon last year, up by 14%.The figures for 2022 also show the number of claims received by the Motor Insurers Bureau grew in 22 of the 26 counties in Ireland.
