New figures reveal over 2,600 appointments were cancelled at local hospitals in April of this year.
University Hospital Galway was worst affected with 1,345 appointments cancelled while almost 300 were postponed at Mullingar Regional Hospital.
The figures show 263 patients had their appointment cancelled at Tullamore regional Hospital with a further 312 affected at Sligo hospital.
Roscommon recorded 288 cancellations last month while Portiuncula postponed the least at just over 100.
It's understood issues around recruitment and retention of healthcare staff led to some cancellations with almost 15,000 postponed nationally.
