Over 270 instances of fraud were reported to local Gardaí in 2023. Phone, text and email scams have increased over the last 12 months, with Gardaí warning that scammers are becoming more convincing. Common tactics include scammers pretending to be banks, energy companies or courier services, with other scammers impersonating companies such as E-Flow or An Post.
Gardaí received over 270 reports of fraud incidents or attempts last year, with Longford seeing the highest level at 69 reports. That's followed by Gardaí in Roscommon and Carrick on Shannon, with the vast majority of rural stations also recording scams. Gardaí continue to urge the public to be sceptical of unsolicited communications from companies and seek advice if concerned.
