Over 3.7 million euro has been allocated to the ongoing development of a number of local greenway projects.
The funding will see construction continue on a number of projects which will be completed in 2023, with other projects moving through planning and design stage.
Roscommon County Council has received the highest amount of funding for the development of the recreational amenities at over 1.5 million euro.
600,000 euro has been awarded for the Lough Ree - Athlone to Ballyleague/Lanesborough route with a further 400,000 euro given from the Longford/Roscommon border to continue along to Tarmonbarry, Storkestown and Roosky.
A further 300,000 euro has been allocated to the Lough Key to Carrick on Shannon greenway.
Support funding of 280,000 euro was also divided between the Athlone to Galway cycle way and regional greenways.
Three projects in Longford received funding including the Mid Shannon Wilderness Corlea Bog, also the Kilnacarrow, Darogue/Ballymacormack section which totaled 200,000 euro.
While the Royal Canal Branch Line from Kilashee to Longford town got 172,000 euro.
The Sligo town to Blacklion in Cavan route which passes through Leitrim received 1.5 million euro with an additional 250,000 euro allocated to the local authority for greenway support.
