Sligo University Hospital is dealing with 36 patients waiting for a hospital bed today. Of those, 16 are on trolleys, while 20 others wait elsewhere in the hospital. Nationally 558 people are waiting for beds in hospitals around the country this morning.
Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show 382 are in emergency departments, while 176 are in wards. University Hospital Limerick is the worst affected by overcrowding, with 112 patients on trolleys. That's followed by 57 at University Hospital Galway, and 52 at St. Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin.
