Sligo University Hospital is dealing with its third consecutive day of extremely high patient numbers waiting for beds at the healthcare facility.
34 people are currently on trolleys or are waiting for beds in the hospital as of this morning, up from 33 yesterday and 22 people on trolleys on Monday.
Elsewhere in the facility, 14 people diagnosed with Covid-19 are receiving treatment in Sligo Hospital, with two of these in the ICU.
An outbreak of the virus on site last week had resulted in several positive cases among staff and patients.
Due to the outbreak and the high numbers of people presenting at the Emergency Department, hospital management is asking the public to only attend A&E in the case of an emergency and to see your GP or GP out of hours service first if possible.
Meanwhile, the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar is urging people to consider alternative care with their GP if possible due to overcrowding this afternoon.
Attendances to the Emergency Department "are extremely high" and the hospital is currently in escalation. As a result long delays are being experienced by people attending the ED where 17 people are waiting for a bed this afternoon.
