Over 300 work permits were issued in the Shannonside region in 2023. Roscommon had the highest amount of work permits issued in the region last year with 138. Longford was close behind with 120 permits issued whilst Leitrim had the lowest in 2023 with 54.
Nationally, almost 31-thousand permits were issued in 2023, down from 40-thousand in 2022. Meanwhile, New figures show government officials are dealing with a surge in applications for work-permits, as employers bring in staff from outside Europe to fill skill-gaps here at home. Employment Law Expert Caroline Reidy, from the HR Suite, says the need for salary hikes to attract new staff does not seem to have put employers off.
