Over 3 and a half-thousand people in the Shannonside region are receiving Carer's allowance.
The allowance is paid to those who are caring for a person because of their age, disability, or illness
The payments start at 224 euro a week for a person under 66 caring for 1 person and go up to a maximum of 393 euro a week for a person aged over 66 caring for 2 people.
The latest figures published by the Oireachtas show that Roscommon has the most people in receipt of the payment, with 923 on a full payment and 687 on a half payment. Longford has 612 on a full payment and 583 on a half payment, while Leitrim has 419 on a full payment and 348 on a half payment. Roscommon also has the most people in receipt of the Domicilliary Care Allowance, paid to those who are caring for a child with a severe disability, at 692. Longford has 479 in receipt of the payment and Leitrim has 279.
Nationally over 140 thousand people are in receipt of both the Carer's Allowance and Domicilliary Care Allowance.
