County Councils across the Shannonside region have paid out over 4 million euro in personal injury compensation in the last five years.
Figures show that Longford has one of the highest rates of claims nationwide, while Roscommon has one of the lowest
The claims made relate to trips and falls on footpaths and roads from 2017 up to June of this year Longford has the 5th highest number of claims nationwide, and the highest in the region, with €2.24m paid out to 90 claimants, equating to a rate of 193 claims per 100,000 population. Leitrim has a rate of 77 claims per 100,000 population, with 1.2m euro paid out since 2017 to 27 claimants. Roscommon has the least amount of claims in the region and the 3rd lowest nationally with 662 thousand euro paid to 42 claimants, equating to a rate of 60 claims per 100,000.
Dublin has the highest amount paid out to claimants at €66.4m.
Nationally, over €150m in compensation has been paid out by County Councils since 2017.
