Over 5,000 patients in the Shannonside Northern Sound region left emergency departments without being seen in the first half of this year.
Figures released by the HSE to Sinn Féín show almost 2 thousand patients left the ED early at Galway University Hospital
Between January and May of this year a total of 5,172 patients left local hospitals before their treatment was finished.
University Hospital Galway had the highest number of patients who left early at 1,805.
This is followed by Sligo Hospital at 1,065 and Mullingar at 968.
Just over 700 people left the ED at Cavan General Hospital while 610 left Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe
The Mater Hospital had the highest number of patients who left the emergency department before finishing treatment nationally between January and May at 5,637.
A total of just under 44,000 people left emergency departments across the country without being seen in the first half of this year
