Over 600 cars in the Shannonside region were licensed for the first time this year. The data was revealed in a recent publication by the CSO. The CSO report provided a break-down of the number of vehicles licensed in January 2025 by type and licensing authority. Co. Roscommon held the highest figure in the region, at a total of 311 private cars registered for the first time.
The number is followed by Co. Longford, where 174 vehicles were licensed last month. Co. Leitrim held the lowest figure in the country, at only 152 cars licensed so far this year. In total, 637 cars were registered across local licensing authorities, out of which 47 were electric vehicles. Nationally, 22,484 was the total number of new private cars licensed in January 2025, an increase of 8% since the same time last year. The CSO also found that Toyota was the most popular make of new registered vehicles in the first month of 2025.
