Over 70 roads were completed under the Local Improvement Scheme in the Shannonside region last year
Figures provided by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphries show Leitrim had the most road completions.
The Local Improvement Scheme supports the improvement of rural roads and laneways that are not normally maintained by local authorities.
Each local authority submits a priority list of roads to the department based on their funding allocation so the money can be used correctly.
Leitrim had the most amount of roads completed last year at 31, a significant increase from the 2021 figure of 17.
This is followed by Roscommon at 24, but this represents a decrease from 30 on the year previous.
Finally Longford completed 18 roads under the scheme, an increase from 14 in 2021.
Nationally 608 roads were completed under the LIS scheme in 2022, down on the previous year's figure of 660.
