Over 75,000 people have used the Roscommon Minor Injury Unit since it was opened in 2011.
The facility at Roscommon University Hospital offers GP or self referral services for injuries that are not life threatening such as broken bones, burns, wounds or bites.
The unit operates from 8am to 8pm each day and is one of a number of services at hospitals nationwide, designed to take pressure from regional Emergency Departments.
Attendance at the Roscommon unit has increased year on year since 2011, with levels jumping in the last 2 years.
9,155 people were referred to the service in 2021 with levels expected to reach over 12,000 users by year's end according to current projections.
Just one percent of attendees were transferred to the unit by ambulance last year, with the vast majority using walk in or GP referral services.
According to the CEO of the Saolta Hospital Group, Tony Canavan, Minor Injury Units are ideal for treating standard sporting issues.
