Over 80 people in Roscommon are currently waiting for cataract surgery at public hospitals across the region.
The straight forward treatment involves replacing the cloudy lens inside a patient's eye with an artificial one, with the procedure known to have a high success rate.
Figures released to Councillor Tony Ward show 83 people with a Roscommon address on public health waiting lists.
Of those waiting, 57 patients are waiting up to six months for the operation with 16 waiting close to a year and a total of 5 people waiting in excess of two years for the sight saving surgery.
Sligo University Hospital currently has a waiting list of 427 patients for the procedure, with 551 on the list at University Hospital Galway.
