A Galway based social enterprise project will be helping Roscommon council to collect unwanted mattresses at special Bulky Goods collection days in the next fortnight

Around 8,000 old mattresses are dumped every year in Roscommon and each mattress that ends up in landfill costs around €180 euro.

That's according to the Bounce Back Recycling social enterprise project which is working with Roscommon council on special Bulky Goods Collections Days in the next couple of weeks.

The Bounce Back enterprise separates the soft material from the metal and sends it for use in carpet underlay.

They operate a collection service across 12 counties at present and hope to increase that to most of the country eventually.

Martin Ward says there's a clear demand from people to have their mattresses recycled and that's what has helped their business to grow significantly in just a few years.
