A group set up to assist with the housing of Ukrainians says 92 percent of host families reported a positive experience. A recent survey by charity Helping Irish Hosts shows there are 1,536 Ukrainians living with hosts in the Shannonside region. Those who host Ukrainians can receive the Accommodation Recognition Payment, a tax-free payment of €800 per month.
There are 603 living with 214 hosts in Leitrim, 575 with 245 hosts in Roscommon, and 358 currently living with Longford hosts. The group says 25 percent of arrivals from Ukraine are now living with host accommodation or pledged properties. It claims this represents a saving of €386 million to the taxpayer compared with the cost of state provided accommodation.
