Local authorities in the Shannonside region have spent over €1.3 million on consultancy costs associated with urban renewal projects in the last four years.
Over half a million euro was spent by Leitrim County Council on costs associated with the planning and CPO process of the Carrick-on-Shannon streetscape project.
Details released to Shannonside FM under Freedom of Information reveal the consultancy costs associated with overseeing major projects in the region in the last four years.
In Longford, the new Edgeworthstown library cost a total of €4.28 million - with construction accounting for all of that total except for €141,000 on design fees.
Consultants for the design and project management of the public realm enhancement in Edgeworthstown cost a total of €67,542 and almost a quarter of a million euro (€246,851.66) was spent on the project management and design of public realm/enhancement plans for the Market Square and Shopping Centre.
In Leitrim consultants for the Carrick on Shannon public realm works between 2018 and 2020 cost the council a total of €585,590 - with their services not required in 2021
Consultation costs associated with the public realm works in Mohill and bringing the project through to the planning stage totalled €48,581.
It's hoped the project will begin construction in the third quarter of this year having been delayed late last year due to a legal challenge.
In Roscommon consultancy fees related to the county town's face lift totalled €315,232 between 2018 and 2021.
The council's urban renewal project in Ballaghaderreen, which it is hoped will get underway this year, also resulted in consultancy fees of €126,000 last year.
In total, €1.389 million euro was spent by local Councils in the region on consultancy fees since 2018.
