Community centres across the shannonside region are set to benefit from over 1.1 million euro in funding
Up to 25,000 euro has been allocated to various centres across Longford, Leitrim, and Roscommon for upgrades to heating, lighting, disability access, and development of services.
30 centres Roscommon have been granted a total of 700,000 euro in funding, Leitrim has 17 centres who have been granted funding totalling 344-thousand , and 7 centres in Longford will benefit from a total fund of 144-thousand.
Roscommon-Galway Senator Aisling Dolan says this funding is vital to help keep community centres open.
"This is absolutely a lifeline for an awful lot of groups who are trying to do everything to keep our halls and centres open. Over the last few months we've seen activities going back to normal, we've seen so many community centres hosting events like agricultural shows, club and society meetings, sports activities, and of course the music, plays and fundraisers. Our community centres and halls really are the heart of our towns and villages".
