Over €155,000 worth of funding has been allocated locally to purchase vehicles designed to transport people who have mobility issues or people undergoing cancer treatments. There are also vehicles for community groups who provide meals on wheels services and for search and rescue organisations. The announcement was made this morning by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys.
County Roscommon received the highest allocation in the region with over €106,000 for three projects. Ballaghaderreen Social Services CLG will receive over €52,000 for the purchase of a 17 seater minibus with Enable Ireland and Roscommon Leader Partnership both receiving close to €27,000 for their respective organisations. Meanwhile, Longford Social Services CLG have been allocated over €25,000 for their Meals on Wheels service. Finally, the Athlone Meals on Wheels Committee will receive close to €23,000 for a delivery van to aid their service.
