Over €3.4 million in funding for repair and improvement works on rural roads and laneways has been announced for counties in the Shannonside region. Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys made the announcement this morning. Roscommon received the highest amount of funding in the region with over €1.5 million under the Local Improvement Scheme. Leitrim will see just over €966,000 worth of funding for rural roads and laneways in the county.
Meanwhile Longford received an allocation of over €938,000 in this mornings announcement. Nationally, €40 million has been allocated from the Department for the improvement of rural roads across the country. Speaking following the announcement, Minister Heather Humphreys said the Local Improvement Scheme is a critical source of funding for small non-public roads not normally maintained by local authorities.
