New figures reveal Leitrim County Council left over 280,000 euro in funding unclaimed under the Disabled Persons Grants scheme in 2022.
The money assists the local authority in carrying out works on social housing stock to address the needs of older people or those with a disability.
According to local Sinn Fein TD Sorca Clarke large amounts of funding under the scheme is going unused.
The Longford/Westmeath representative claims this is because the amounts awarded are so low making it unfeasible due to rising construction costs caused by inflation.
Last year an allocation of 357,120 euro was made to Leitrim County Council however just 68,936 euro was drawn down.
Over 100,000 euro was not used by Longford County Council in 2022 having received an allocation of just over 290,000 euro.
Roscommon used its full amount of funding last year of 260,947.
Deputy Clarke says the Department of Housing and local authorities must look into this issue urgently, to ensure that the scheme can operate as intended without delay.
