Over three quarters of a million euro has been announced for Sports organisations in the Shannonside region. The funds are part of the Sports Capital Equipment Grant and will support 34 clubs across Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim. The grant helps with the development or refurbishment of sports facilities and the provision of sports equipment. Roscommon clubs received the highest allocation locally by a substantial amount, with €400,000 ring-fenced for 15 clubs. These include €70,000 for the Kilbride GAA Club towards specialised flooring and gym equipment and €57,000 for Ballinameen GAA for maintenance equipment and the creation of a gym.
Leitrim is next with a total of €183,000, with projects such as the Carrick on Shannon Rowing Club, Lough Rynn Kayaking Club and Dromahair Football Club receiving substantial amounts. In Longford, 10 organisations are to receive payments as part of the grant with €173,000 allocated from the fund. The highest allocations in Longford have gone to the Phoenix Basketball Club, the Longford Gymnastics Club and Cnoc Mhuire School. Nationally, €26 million was allocated between hundreds of clubs across the country.
