Over €8.6 million worth of funding has been announced for Active Travel Projects across the Shannonside region. The National Transport Authority made the announcement earlier today with a view to spending €294m on walking and cycling infrastructure this year. Longford received the largest allocation of funding from the NTA in the region with €3.5 million secured for local projects.
The Pedestrian and Cycle scheme in Granard received €510,000 whilst a similar scheme for the R392 in Ballymahon received €490,000. €2.7 million was announced for projects in Co. Roscommon with just over €2m of that allocation going to the Ballaghaderreen Town Development. Meanwhile, the new Pedestrian & Cycle Bridge project in Roscommon Town will receive €60,000. Finally, Active Travel Projects in Co. Leitrim will receive €2.4 million following todays announcement. €130,000 has been allocated to the Ballinamore Junction upgrade whilst the Drumshanbo Town junction upgrade will receive €70,000.
