Over fifty drivers in the north-west garda region of Sligo Leitrim were detected driving while intoxicated last year.
New CSO crime figures for the third quarter of 2020 also reveal that there was a significant rise in the number of sexual-based crimes in the region.
Examining figures related to the Sligo-Leitrim garda division from the CSO, thirty seven drivers were detected drink driving and seventeen were detected drug driving in the first three quarters of last year.
Year on year it compares to just two drug-driving detections in quarter three 2019 and 28 drink driving arrests.
Rape and sexual assault figures were also up - with 23 offences reported to gardaí - up from 13 in quarter three in 2019.
