Local authorities in the Shannonside region have drawn down over half a million euro in funding for Traveller specific accommodation so far this year.
Figures from the Department of Housing and Local Government show local county councils used €542,369 in the preparation, adoption and implementation of Traveller Accommodation Programmes.
The Department of Housing has provided €18 million for Traveller-specific accommodation this year, but just €6 million has been drawn down to date.
Traveller accommodation is provided across a range of options including standard local authority housing and traveller specific projects.
Roscommon County Council has drawn down over €209,079 for housing stratagies and implementation in the first 7 months of the year.
€199, 342 has been used so far by Longford county Council, while Leitrim County Council has drawn €133,948 of the funding to date.
According to the department, further spending on traveller specific housing by local authorities may have taken place, with the funds secured through the local property tax fund.
Junior Minister and local TD Peter Burke believes the full capital allocation will be used in 2022.
