There's over €1 million in outstanding court fines in the Shannonside region since 2020. The findings were revealed through a Freedom of Information request submitted by Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú.
The data detailed the amount of unpaid court fines going back to 2020. The court fines were for district court and district court appeals only, and include partly paid fines, fines due for payment in the future, and those overdue for payment.
The courts service currently allows 12 months for the issued fine to be paid. Longford District Court has issued 1,921 unpaid fines since 2020, amounting to a total of €586,000.
839 fines have not yet been fully paid in Roscommon district court office, totaling just under €320,000. While there are €133,756 in outstanding fines owed to Carrick-on-Shannon district court.
Despite issuing 443 unpaid fines, the Carrick-on-Shannon district was found to be one of the most compliant in the country. Nationally, there have been fines worth €45 milllion which have still not been paid.
