Over 1 million euro in additional payments for the Local Improvement Scheme has been allocated to councils in the Shannonside region.
The allocation follows initial grants to the local authorities in April, with the second tranche doubling the previous figure,
The Local Improvement Scheme provides funding to help local authorities carry out improvement works on private and non-publicly maintained roads.
In April, a total of over 1 million euro was granted between Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon county councils.
Today, the Department of Rural and Community Development announced a further 1.1 million euro for the works. bringing the total allocation in the region to over 2.2 million euro.
Leitrim has been the biggest winner when it comes to funds, with their grant of €304,700 topped up by €831,100 for a total of over 1.1 million euro for the county.
That's followed by Longford County Council, where €288,600 was ring fenced for the scheme on top of April's €304,700.
Roscommon saw the lowest additional funding in the region with just €70,000 used to top up April's fund of €443,000
The local funds are part of a national allocation in 2023 of 30 million euro.
