Japanese Knotweed, Rhododendron, and Himalayan balsam are just three invasive species of plant in Ireland that can require specialist care in their removal to prevent further spread.

Longford-Westmeath Deputy, Joe Flaherty, says that he has received assurances that the Longford service will continue to operate and a review is in progress to appoint a new provider.

It emerged last week a number of nurses and healthcare staff raised concerns.

The issue was raised at a meeting of Carrick M.D. today.

Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice has condemned the act, stating lifebuoys are there to save lives and anyone who removes or interferes with one is potentially risking someone's life.
