New legislation being considered to provide paid leave for victims of domestic violence should be a priority for Government.
That's according to Roscommon/Galway Sinn Fein TD Claire Kerrane who says the lack of such a support is leaving many victims in perilous positions.
The Domestic Violence leave bill would give survivors of domestic violence a statutory entitlement to paid leave for 10 days.
The Bill was introduced in the Dail in 2019 and is due before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, integration and Youth this week.
Speaking to Shannonside FM, Deputy Kerrane says the leave would help victims attend medical appointments, legal hearings or to move house.
