It's hoped the visit of the Pakistani Ambassador and regional president to Longford in recent days will develop closer ties with the Pakistani community in the county.
Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry and the Ambassador met members and officials from Longford County Council following a tour of St. Mel's Cathedral by Fr. James Mc Kiernan.
One of the key themes that emerged from the discussions included the many Pakistani people that have contributed to County Longford. This includes the recent appointment of Aughancliffe's Shairaz Hussain as Honorary Advisor to President Chaudhry.
Cathaoirleach Peggy Nolan hopes the visit will strengthen ties with the community in Longford.
