Parents of children with Autism took to the streets of Athlone yesterday to call for additional supports.
A local campaign group organised the protest which began at St. Peter's Church.
Despite the announcement of a new special education class at Athlone Community College, five children are still without a place for the next academic year.
Claire Early is founder of Athlone Austism Parents, she says the protest was held to tell Government they must do more and ensure children are given the resources they need.
"The children need routine and they need staff and recourses that are going to nourish them and understand their communication skills and sometimes their lack of communications skills".
"For children that understand that there're no school places, it can be very disheartening and some children will say what's the point of going to school now when there wont be any space come September".
