A Part 8 planning application has been submitted by Longford County Council for significant works at a local school.
Plans will include major works to transport, pedestrian and road infrastructure at Scoil Mhuire in Newtownforbes.
A Part 8 planning application is a plan by the council itself to complete works with the decision made in conjunction with county councillors.
The local authority is seeking to construct a School Zone and a new controlled crossing on the N4 leading into the village.
Works on creating the school zone would see the demolition of walls fronting onto the L-1004 to facilitate a 2.5 metre footpath and a 3 metre wide bus bay.
An uncontrolled pedestrian crossing point will be upgraded to a controlled crossing serving the main school pedestrian entrance, while the same is planned for the uncontrolled crossing on the N4 outside of the playground.
The wall around the area used for staff parking is also set to be taken down and for the construction new boundary wall and entrance piers including gates.
The deadline for public submissions for the application will close on the 12th of April.
The plans will be discussed by local councillors, with a decision set for May.
