Part eight planning for the N61 Tulsk to Clashaganny road project has been approved by Roscommon County Councillors.
The stretch was identified as a key priority for the local authority in 2017 and the emerging route was put on display to the public in April of 2020.
Councillor Liam Callaghan has welcomed the progress on what he describes as a very dangerous road.
The Fine Gael Representative hopes the project can be moved to the tendering and procurement stage as soon as possible and he's calling for local contractors to be considered to carry out the works.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Councillor Callaghan explained the next steps.
"The TII will be going out to the landowners and the compulsory purchase orders will be in place and the negotiations will start. From then it'll go on to final design phase and tendering for the total project. It could be 2025 before this starts but we'll have to be patient and hopefully we can progress it quicker if possible"
