Patients attending Sligo University Hospital are being warned to expect delays over the weekend due to works on site.
The delays come as the ED is already experiencing ongoing overcrowding and bed shortages, with 27 people waiting for a hospital bed this morning.
The hospital is upgrading its ITC computer systems in the Emergency Department this weekend in what management say are necessary works. ITC or Integrated Transaction Control Systems link SUH with other hospitals and services, with the public warned that delays may be caused while admin staff navigate the new system. Elsewhere in the Shannonside Northern Sound region, a further 82 patients are on trolleys or are waiting for a bed elsewhere in hospitals. These include 55 people in UHG in Galway, 9 in Cavan Hospital and 7 in both Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe and Our Lady's Hospital in Drogheda.
Nationally 542 admitted patients are waiting for beds in the nation's hospitals this morning, according to today's INMO Trolley Watch.
