The Director of Nursing at Sligo Hospital says patients are delighted that visiting restrictions are being eased from today.
Relatives no longer need to make an appointment and up to two people can attend between 6 and 8pm.
Marion Ryder was on the frontline during the pandemic and says it was an extremely difficult period on patients and relatives with some using letters as their only form of communication.
Speaking on Let's Talk earlier Marion insists the safety of patients continues to be paramount and visitors must follow certain guidelines.
''We don't want to open the floodgates we are still asking visitors if they would please wear a surgical face mask. If they come in without it, we can provide them with one. And that's the advice from the HSE for best practice because we are a healthcare setting, and we would ask relatives to avail of the hand sanitizer as well.''
