The National Ambulance Service and Roscommon University Hospital have agreed a programme that will see certain patients transferred directly to the RUH Injury Unit.
A small cohort of patients with minor injuries, who meet strict clinical and geographical criteria, will be brought directly to the injury unit.
Roscommon Injury Unit treats breaks, sprains, dislocations, burns and wounds.
The move is expected to relieve pressure on emergency departments in the region.
