State and local groups must prioritise outdoor pedestrian and cycling trails if the region is to hold it's own in the tourism market.
That's according to the Cathaoirleach of Roscommon Council Joe Murphy at the first public consultation of the proposed Mid-Shannon Greenway this week.
The project is billed as a new route that could link to several walking and cycling trails already in existence to form a major new tourist attraction for the West.
