Longford County Council and the Department of Defence are being called on to provide a permanent and suitable base for the local Civil Defence service.
Longford Civil Defence is currently based out of a rented former commercial building on the Ballinalee Road outside of the town.
Councillor Martin Monaghan is calling for a permanent home for the service to allow them to store vehicles and equipment on site and to host training for members.
According to the Fianna Fáil councillor, the service in Longford has responded to over 80 call outs so far this year, including missing person searches, charity events and community gatherings.
Councillor Monaghan believes the local authority and Department of Defence can identify a suitable site for a new purpose built base or to take over and convert an existing building.
