Roscommon County Council have received permission to include additional active travel measures in their existing planning permission for major upgrade of the N5.
The team behind the Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project had called on the higher planning authority to decide if the granted consent for the works would incorporate localised minor active travel works.
Active Travel measures are designed to encourage and enable walking and cycling with facilities such as cycle routes, greenways and paths.
Funding announced yesterday for 2023 saw 7 million euro for pedestrian, cycling and public transport works in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon.
Roscommon County Council's application to An Bord Pleanála also sought to clarify if minor local works can be completed as part of the granted planning permission to help future developments of an amenity led nature.
The existing permission was granted in 2019 and includes the substantial improvement and realignment of the route between Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge.
The higher planning body has ruled that the request does not materially alter the original permission.
