A significant extension to a County Longford Solar farm has been given the go-ahead from County planners.
Harmony Solar Longford Limited applied for the development adjoining the already permitted 'Middleton House Solar Farm near Killashee.
The ten-year planning permission has been granted for the construction of 184,500 metres squared of solar photo-voltaic panels across the 34.5 hectares of land.
The development will be set up in the townlands of Ballynakill, Bunacloy and Middleton, near Killashee.
The solar panels will be mounted on ground steel frames and works will include the construction of a ring main unit, substation and associated hard standing.
Included in the application are 12 inverter/transformers stations, underground cabling, along with CCTV and security fencing.
The plans were granted by Longford County Planners with 15 conditions attached.
These include a provision that no groundworks take place within 20 metres of a protected holy well, and that the site be dismantled and the land returned to its previous state after the development's 35 year lifetime.
