Planning has been approved to transform a former school in Roscommon into a domestic home.
Roscommon County Council has granted permission for works to take place at the National School in Curraghroe which closed over twenty years ago.
It shut its doors after a reduction in staff numbers and the development of a newer school in Cloontuskert just a few miles away.
The large building went on sale in 2019 and planning permission was lodged in May of this year for a change of use of the school into a residential building;
Works are also to take place for the provision of first-floor habitable accommodation with internal access stairs, alterations to various facades and a proposed extension to the rear of the current building;
The Council has granted permission subject to nine conditions, including the extension shall be finished to match the exterior of the existing building and the existing on-site septic tank shall be decommissioned.
