A decision on whether to grant planning permission to develop a new entrance to a home being built for three seriously ill children in Roscommon has been delayed by the local authority.
Over 20 submissions from locals objecting to the plans have been received by Roscommon County Council in opposition to the plans at the 'Join Our Boys ' home at Ardsallagh More on the Athlone Road in the town.
Works have been ongoing since 2019 to build a specially adapted home for the Naughten brothers, Archie, George and Isaac who all suffer from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Hundreds of thousands of euro was collected locally in the last number of years for the boys, with the home almost ready to move in to.
However, a planning submission lodged in January to develop a separate entrance for the project has been delayed after significant opposition from residents of a housing estate nearby.
24 residents from the Ard Aoibheann estate have submitted an objection template to the Council about the proposal citing multiple concerns, including the road safety and how a second entrance would become a 'rat run for traffic' due to its proximity to the hospoital and county GAA gorunds.
They also claim that the development would negatively impact the overall estate, and access to the property is already adequate.
Earlier this month Roscommon County Council confirmed that it would be seeking further information on the project before either approving or refusing permission
