A decision is not expected until February of next year.

Planning permission granted for the construction of a new apartment complex in Athlone has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.

The development on Brideswell Street had received permission for the demolition of 2 single-storey buildings and the construction of 20 apartments contained in stand-alone three and four-storey buildings.

The application from John Killian would include four one-bedroom units and 16 two-bed apartments, along with the construction of a semi-basement car park with the provision of 19 car parking spaces. The project was approved by Westmeath County Council with 10 conditions attached in September. That permission has now being appealed to An Bord Pleanála, with a decision due in February 2023.
